Winter is a poem

Your winter holidays in Hotel Kathrin. The location could not be better for a skiing holiday Away from the noise and yet only a 5 minute walk to the pistes, cable cars, ski schools and the village centre. You can easily reach the cable cars with the free ski bus, that stops every 15 minutes just outside the hotel (from 08:35 to 17:30)

760 km pistes – the ski world Amadé! From slopes for beginners to familiy runs right up to the black pistes. Here everyone finds something suitable. Its snow reliability has made Großarl famous. If however, the snow wants to make us wait for it, there are dozens of snow cannons to assure a perfect ski experience. 270 cable cars take you to the breathtaking Salzburg mountain region in a short time.

No waiting for the lifts, well prepared pistes, Half-Pipe, cosy ski huts and Aprés-Ski-Bars make for an unforgettable day skiing.

We don’t compromise on quality. The ski region Großarl-Dorfgastein even came 2nd place in the ski area tests.

If you’re not a piste freak, simply choose from the other numerous offers such as cross country skiing on 30 km of ski tracks,, winter hiking trails through snowy forests, snow shoeing,tobogganing, ice skating or a romantic horse carriage ride through the winter wonderland that is Großarl.

We are especially pleased that the BAK in Basel has recommended Großarl as a preferred all year round holiday destination in the Alps. Those are the findings of a study conducted by the Swiss BAK from 21.01.2010.

Berg & Gesund

Our guests can participate in BERG-GESUND's sporting activities free of charge.
Expert hiking guides will accompany you: hike with snow shoes, ice climbing, ski touren.
The activities are partly for beginners and also for advanced.

Family skiing holidays in the Grossarl valley

Family skiing holidays in the Grossarl valley, families pay for a maximum of 2 children all winter long, all other children up to the age of 18 ski free of charge.

The valley has made a name for itself because of its child-friendliness. Not only the care of the “ski dwarfs” in the ski nursery (from 3,5 years up) or in the “children’s club motley” (from 6 months up), but also from the help of the lift attendants at the entrances to the cable cars make it famous, along with the reasonably priced family cards of the funicular.

Easter Week!
Free ski passes for all children up to 15 years of age (from year 2003 and later born) are available from 16.03.2019 until the end of the season (22.04.2019) from the purchase of a 6-day ski pass for minimum one parent.

Skiing and snowboarding in Grossarl

Skiing in Grossarl valley: the ski resort is famous as a family ski resort in the “ski amadé”. Wide family-pistes, snow reliability and modern ski lifts can be found here in the ski region Grossarl valley – Dorfgastein.

Snowboarding in Grossarl: our ski region in Grossarl valley also offers snowboarders many attractive ski-runs, and the right kind of grounds with difficult mugol pistes and untouched deep snow slopes.

Cross country

Glide gently through the landscape and set the pace yourself.

Cross-country skiing is possible on about 25 km of cross-country ski trails in Grossarl and Hüttschlag. Most of the tracks have a classic and a skating track.

Start is at the "Reitwiese". Along the Ache the trail leads in the direction of Hüttschlag to Kösslerhäusl.

Sporty cross-country skiers prefer the "Reitwiese". This is a 2 km long circular route alternating with gradients for demanding cross-country skiers and flat pieces. For the children there is also a cross-country obstacle course.

Night trail:
The approx. 2 km long night trail in Grossarl is in the "Reitwiese", which is in operation every monday, wednesday and friday from 6 pm to 8.30 pm.

Winter hiking

Be one with the beautiful nature, listen to your own breath and follow the footsteps in the snow. Walking through the snowy landscape in winter and breathing the fresh air, just feels good. Walk along the 35 km of cleared winter hiking trails and explore the deep snow.

Tip: The Loosbühelalm has opened in the winter for all winter hikers, snowshoe hikers and ski tourers.

Fairytale hike in the torchlight

Every tuesday and thursday you walk through the winter forest in an atmospheric way and listen to the freely told folk fairy tales. These are about the fairy queen in the Ice Castle, the enchanted trees or the mighty mountain spirit. The legends are accompanied by the sounds of the natural flute. The fairytale walk is suitable for families with children from 4 years. Cost € 12,00 per adult and € 10,00 per child. The fairytale hike takes about 1 ½ h.

Snow shoe hiking

Trudging with snowshoes on your feet and the telescopic poles through the untouched snow.

Tip: The Loosbühelalm is also open in winter!

Rules for snow shoe hiking

Snowshoeing certain rules must be observed. The correct choice of route, the appropriate time of day, knowledge of the weather snowpack construction as well as the behavior in the terrain are essential basic knowledge!

Snow shoe hiking with Andrea Seer

Guided snow shoe hikes are also offered by Andrea Seer (hiking guide, forest pedagogue, storyteller, light energetic). From the snuffle hike, over themed hikes to idyllic circular walks, everything is included.

A lot of fun for families and groups. Who is the fastest on the track? Who takes the bends best? Who will be the first to land in the soft snow?

A traffic-free toboggan run is located at the Hotel Lammwirt. The natural toboggan run is about 3 km long and promises fun for the whole family. A very special experience is sledding when it gets dark. The toboggan run is lit in the evening until 11.00 pm.

The toboggan run is open daily in winter. The toboggan-express starts from 01.00 pm to 09.00 pm. The departure is all full hour.
In the morning, sledging is limited due to work on the toboggan run.

Tobogganing from the Loosbühelalm to the parking place. You can borrow the sledges on the Loosbühelalm. The driveway is possible by taxi. The Loosbühelalm is open daily.

Horse sleigh

Nostalgia and romance: wrapped in warm blankets in a horse-drawn carriage glide through the enchanted Grossarl valley!
