Hiking brings body, mind and soul in harmony. Is there still an increase for happiness on the mountaintop?
Yes! Wellness on green meadows about. Welltain (wellbeing in the mountains) is the pinnacle of alpine wellbeing.
And not only enthusiastic Welltain supporters, no - it's also scientifically proven.

Mountainbiken & E-Biken

Juni bis Oktober

Cyclists have several options in the Grossarl Valley:

Leisure cyclists will enjoy the valley bikeway to the "Hohe Tauern National Park" and sports cyclists find their challenge on pasture and forest roads. For the very comfortable guests we recommend the popular e-bike. With electric bicycles, your own pedaling power is supported to 100%. The bikes realize that when they go uphill, they need more power from the battery. So not trained cyclists come effortlessly to your destination. Holiday tip in the Grossarl Valley: Here at the Hotel Kathrin we provide you with a free MTB bike and an e-bike for a small fee.

Mountain bikers can tackle 140 km of signposted and marked mountain bike trails in the Grossarl Valley.

Climbing - Adventure in the mountains

Climbing in the Alps, Großarl and Hüttschlag with three fixed rope routes!
For beginners, there are a slightly shorter and simpler climbing ferrata named "Gletschergoaß" (Level A - C, length 150m, height: 50m).

Newly created in year 2012 is the fixed rope routr "Franzl" (labeled from his builder Richard Franzl) with a length of 400 meters and a height of 210 meters, level of difficulty: C - D.

More climbing in the Grossarl Valley offers the "Bella Cascinaia" at the Saukarkopf (2,048 m) and about 10 different difficult climbing routes at the Schuhflicker (2,214 m) and its pre-peaks. A climbing set and a helmet are essential important for the routes.

Rules on the fixed rope routes:

  • Comprehensive Planning - Look carefully at the description of the climbing route in advance and then choose the route that suits your body and condition.
  • The goal is adapted to the personal requirements. Cliff experience and deception freedom are essential for climbing.
  • Take complete and standard equipment with you! Helmet, helmet and climbing set are standard, gloves and climbing shoes are recommended.
  • Special attention to the weather! In case of snow, rain, thunderstorms (lightning is particularly dangerous) or moisture and ice in no case get into the wall.
  • No blind trust in the riser system! Set up a special attention to safety hook and steel cable.
  • Partner check at the entrance! Before you enter the route, especially look at loops, knots and carabiner of your climbing partner.
  • Keep sufficient distances! A fall often happens unpredictably and quickly, so keep a minimum distance of 2 steel rope anchors between the climbers. Especially attention on loose stones and kick off any stones.
  • Clear communication and consideration for other climbers. Tell your climbing division in good time what you are doing or if you have difficulties.
  • Downstream exclusively on the marked trails.

Chapel trail Grossarl

Hiking on the chapel path is regeneration for body and soul. At each chapel one of the 10 commandments is rephrased into a good wish, that is intended to guide us on our (life) path. The starting point for the chapel trail hike is the parish church in Großarl. The trails leads in the direction of Hüttschlag, along the way you pass by the Laireiting-, the Bichl-, the Figler-, the Griesbichl-, the Neuhof- as well as the Schappach chapel. Then you come to the church in Hüttschlag. It leads you further to the top of the valley. Along the way are the Wolfau-, Karteis-, Maurach and Hubertus chapels. The Petrtill chapel at the top of the valley in Hüttschlag builds the end of this tour. This chapel was built in thanks for a safe return home from the Second World War. It should inspire us all to say thank you. The trail is approx. 16,5 km long, and it can of course be walked in stages.
